Just finished my first book of the year. I know it's mid-February but this was a bit of an 850-page epic. Been meaning to read this for at least a decade.
This was a great read - written in the style of mid-19th century novels, and with enough wit and playfulness to keep me fully engaged for the full length.

This Ends in Embers () is still fine, but still missing some world building. I didn't realize this series was targeted at juveniles until the afterword, which is on me, but I don't think that excuses the feeling that it could be so much better with an overall editing pass. Rating 3/5.

A couple of days ago I finished listening to A Grim Reaper's Guide to Catching a Killer, by Maxie Dara. I found it charming and overall relaxing. Throughout the years I've enjoyed a fair number of urban fantasies where the protagonist is young and cute. However, it's refreshing to get a solidly middle-aged woman, dealing with life, who is in love with a normal, average looking, IT guy. Also, I love the teen in this .
Im currently working on a backlog so I can revamp my blog, but I dont want to spout a bunch of platitudes. I want to give writers, other editors, whoever has an interest in reading what a book editor has to say, something they want to fill their cup with.
