Just finished "Flight of Passage" by Rinker Buck.

Next up on my list is "Come Fly The World - The Jet-Age Story of the Women of Pan Am" by Julia Cooke.

I LOVE the era in that is sometimes called the "Golden Age" of air travel, when people dressed up, ate real food off real china, and the "Stewardesses" were hand picked to fit a certain profile. This book covered Pan Am's Flight Attendants from 1966 thru 1975.

Should be a fun ride.

I want to have an app, that helps me to lent and borrow private printed .
So I want to add all my books, then my friends do the same. And through the app we can see who owns what , arrange and track who has borrowed my books.

I found gohardcover.com/en that promises to do that, but does not work well for me.

Does anyone has an idea
I could host a whole library system, but that is over the top.

Material World is a great that follows 6 essential materials that are the basis for the modern world: Sand, Salt, Iron, Cupper, Oil and Lithium! They are responsible for our energy transitions. Do not confuse the Material World with the consumerism world that Madonna sings about. Instead, Ed Conway demystifies the immaterial digital world and how these raw materials are the basis of our ways of living and manufacturing into stuff responsible for high generation of green house gases.

I invite you to share your favorite in the comments. Mine is "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", a philosophical novel about two men and two women with different visions of life and love on an existential collision course.

Girl in a Band is good, but some things are just completely skipped over, not given any attention.

I'd like to know what the recording process was like for each album. Not necessarily technical stuff, but what it was like working with different people, what they were trying to achieve, how stressful it was, etc.

She mentions what certain songs were about and that interests me - the ideas that inspired the lyrics, etc.

But she cherry picks the songs and doesn't talk about all of them. I'd like to know a little bit more sometimes, especially since lyrics can be a little bit abstract at times.

When she reveals the thinking behind a song, it makes me see the song in a different way, and lyrics that meant nothing to me suddenly become a little bit more interesting.

Two things I've been consuming recently:

's Girl in a Band and I watched the one-off show Bottom: Exposed.

Both Kim and Adrian Edmonson talk about being young and new to their particular craft and not knowing what they were doing. Kim it's music, Adrian it's writing for TV.

But this is a common thing for many creative people. In fact, the act of learning is to give it a go and see what comes out.

I don't know about art school nowadays but when I was at art school we weren't really taught techniques all that much. Much of creativity has for a long time been: do what you want and when something good happens, develop it.

There are techniques in any media that give you desired results. But there are also new and unexplored techniques waiting to be discovered. I think in art school they perhaps encourage you to embrace the I-don't-know-what-the-fuck-I'm-doing thing and I think a lot of artists are naturally confident about lacking technical and professional skills.

But having said they didn't know what they were doing, both Kim's and Adrian's work feels like they really did know what they were doing. And I guess that's really about their confidence in what they were producing - and the confidence of the people they were working with.

BLACK BOOK LOVE

The other thing I got at the vintage shop today is this light that looks like a book. I saw it in a magazine and thought it was cool so I immediately knew what it was. It's rechargeable and great for mood lighting. Cost me $1.99.
