Although I haven't read the , I've seen the . Here are some thoughts about that.
It never made sense to me that a government would want all books destroyed , because any country that denies its populations access to knowledge would sink into insignificance in no time.
The book may have been motivated in part by the Nazi book burnings, but that was about some books not all books.
I think it's equally likely that Ray Bradbury may have come to realise that reading books is not always a net-positive for the reader, and that may have been a motivation to write that particular book.
1. Book readers tend to be much more isolated than the rest of the population, which is not good for social life.
2. And let's talk about eye : had among the thickest prescription glasses I've ever seen. Books certainly played a big part in that, and although I haven't found any evidence that he made the mental connection between reading books and poor eye health, I'd say he certainly did do that at an unconscious level at least.
