Cutting school librarians hurts academic achievement.

Its a sad reality that in the American educational system, students are more often defined as data points than as distinct individuals.

I'm having series anxiety. I'm almost done with "Clan of The Cavebear", and our library kinda sucks because this is , and they'll have one book in the series, but not all of them. This is a super common thing here. And now I HAVE to have the rest of them. And Amazon has the full set for $40...I'm gonna have to go prostitute myself >:( It starts off very "unga bunga" and feeds the caveman tropes, and as you go into it, you discover it's a lot more complex than that. Book

In the Shadow of Stalin by Andrea Chalupa and Ivan Rodrigues (2024). A very attractive cold war thriller covering Welsh journalist Gareth Jones reaching Ukraine and witnessing the Holodomor in 1933. Lots of female roles, but some seemed contrived developing these is a perennial challenge for political histories. 7pp of notes.

Apparently #4 in a series of graphic history reviews.

"First Office COmputer"

Company and computer developed, intertwined. Not an outside system dropped on or vice versa.

British.

Idea 1930s, implementation later followed on - indirectly - from Bletchley Park.

Supplanted by IBM model of development.

Good story.

Edit to add that this is the third Patternist Novel that I've read after Wild Seed and Mind of My Mind. Takes awhile to get to the connection in this one cause it's in the future and not with the same characters as the first two. Loved it though. Weird stuff as always. Reminded me a little of the Xenogenesis series and a little of Parable of The Sower.

More Americans need to learn about the benefits of libraries, so help spread the word.

I've finished reading "The Shining" by Stephen King yesterday. I don't think the title nor the author need any introduction. I just wanted to say that the movie (Kubrick's version) ls less scary. I guess a movie can put you behind somebody's eyes, but only a can truly put you inside somebody's head, and for hours.

I love Shel Silverstein's poetry. "flax-golden tales" is what I have been trying to "spin". Good morning, everyone. I hope you're all doing well and feeling fine.Apologies for not posting sooner, but I have been in the trenches of storyland, so to speak. Unrelated to the Max Hamby series.I wrote a piece quite a few years ago. It got used for blog posts and to share with all of you, then put to the side. I want o expand on it, because there might be something there, but I can't seem to
