Ujet, absurdn ptkovinka, kde se daj dohromady hotelov recepn, ateistick pastorka a erstv proputn vrah (a ochlasta), natvou cel stockholmsk podsvt a nakonec zalo crkev.
Docela fajn nenron ten, ale v tomto nru se najdou i lep kousky.

As an author and artist, I'm a small business trying to make ends meet in these "interesting times." So once a week, I remind you lovely folks about the books I've written and other projects that you might enjoy. Up this week: The Bed, a foray into an urban fantasy world, complete with demons, angels, and haunted furniture.

Half way through this book and it got me so mad, I dont want to finish it

Started James by Percival Everett last night. Kindle says I read a quarter of it already as I was really enjoying it and was instantly gripped. Another 2024 Booker Prize longlist

Finished The Empusium by Olga Tocarczuk. Was slightly disappointed. Wasn't particularly a horror story (as the cover states) and got a bit bored by all the dialogue between the characters (which didn't really add anything to the story). I liked her last so much I may have set my expectations too high. Oh well. from me. Onto the next book already!

Book

Six ways to get more for your .

Honestly, I was not expecting the first edition but the fourth one (considering the cover and the ISBN given in the announce description), but I'm still exciting of the purchase (however, I can read the fourth edition online )

Any or that sees , or other beings as a direct product of mortal desire (instead of the other way around), makes a statement to my liking.
Not holding my breath for a major making this step, though. The desire to externalise + worshipblame is strong.

I just found my favourite word in Japanese: "Tsundoku".

For those that dont know, the Fear Street series and the Goosebumps series were published by different houses, which explains why Stine didnt end the original GB run with a kid moving to Fear Street or even Shadyside (where Fear Street sits).
My conjecture here is that the lawsuits from Scholastic left a bad taste in his mouth and he tried to get a GB-ish series off the ground as a spin-off called Ghosts of Fear Street.
And there were other spin-offs as well. Fear Street, Ghosts of Fear Street, 99 Fear Street, Fear Street Saga, etc.
But at some point, Stine stopped writing them. Some sources say that its because they just werent selling well anymore.
Stine sat.
And waited.
And then he came back with a vengeance and new Fear Street books. They were longer and more graphic than the Fear Street books of the 90s.
This is one of those new books (published in 2018).
And it was a lot of fun, it feels like Stine riffing on The Shining (movie). Room 237 is mentioned, it mostly takes place in a hotel in Colorado that has a sort of time warp and curse attached to it, and there was even a photo from 1924 that had people from modern times.
It might be unfair of me to compare Stines stories to Kings so often (I did it with at least two Goosebumps books) but Ive read a lot of King and hes been around for so long - has written so much - that its tough not to see similarities and call them out.
His changes to the series (longer and more violent) are plenty visible and I didnt mind the additional violence but this book did stretch on a bit and felt a little bloated. Stine can write tight stories and pack a punch. Sometimes this feels like theres character development lacking, but the extra length here isnt exactly adding to it - its just making the book longer. Theres more repetition and, in some books cases, a couple different chances to end it.
All that said, it was still fun to read and Im glad I did.

**Beyond the River, Under the Eye of Rome**

Hart delves into the cultural and political impacts of Rome's interactions with Transdanubian peoples, emphasizing the Sarmatians of the Hungarian Plain, whose long encounter with the Roman Empire, he argues, created a problematic template for later dealings with Goths and Huns based on misapplied ethnographic and ecological tropes.
