Hayo just finished reading Als je kind (g)een Einstein is by Tessa Kieboom

An interesting take on the concept of gifted children. The book dispells the notion that it is only a matter of high IQ, but instead focusses on the kind of psychological support these kids actually can't get at school, but absolutely need in order to thrive in later life.

Hayo just finished reading Raven Stratagem by Yoon Ha Lee

Even though it's fun to read something completely different, I still find it very hard to relate to this series. I wish I had a better understanding of Calendrical warfare by now.

Hayo just finished reading The Art & Science of Metawar: How to Coexist With AI-Driven Reality Distortion, Disinformation, & Addiction in the Metaverse by Winn Schwartau

A cute book that tries to shoehorn a lot of knowledge into an idea. It sort of works, but it is very disjointed. It's good to have a lot of information about cognition, processing and how the mind can be manipulated in one place, it's very relevant to today's infospace.

Hayo just finished reading China's War with Japan, 1937-1945 by Rana Mitter

Another bit of the Second World War I somehow skipped over. And wow. This book explains a lot of current political turmoil in the area, the unique complexity of the conflict and the utter failure of Allied forces to do anything but make a bigger mess.

Hayo just finished reading Revenant Gun by Yoon Ha Lee

Part three takes the style a little bit in a different direction, making it much more readable, and making sense of some of the stuff in the previous books. Still a bit of an abrupt ending. Maybe a part four is in the works

Hayo just finished reading Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World by Michael Lewis

An entertaining account of the authors research into countries teetering on the brink of bankruptcy after the 2008 financial crisis. It's basically a meditation on greed, wishful thinking and refusing to take long term effects into account when the short term profits are so great.

Hayo just finished reading The Spartans by Paul Cartledge

Spartans. Such a funny subject. Everytime I read this book I get more of a feeling what they were really like. Severely flawed qnd incredibly overhyped, even in their glory days.

Hayo just finished reading De hoogste ambtenaar by Roel Bekker

Until now I never worked for an organization where I could learn more about the inner workings and the how and why of how the organization operates, from a history book. Sadly beyond that not very informative, and the format makes it incredibly repetitive.

Hayo just finished reading Quantum Computing by Arthur Tech

A bad purchase. Way too short to contain any meaningful information. And then every chapter repeats the same info. Seems to have been put together with an LLM and no editors. Don't recommend.

Hayo just finished reading The Little Ice Age: How Climate Made History 1300-1850 by Brian Fagan

One of those books that was exactly what I was looking for. The author presents a very balanced scientific overview of the interplay between climatic and socio-economic flows. It paints a disturbing picture of our very recent history and gives a glimpse of what could happen in the next few hundred years.

Hayo just finished reading The Last Viking: The True Story of King Harald Hardrada by Don Hollway

Vikings are amazing. And Harald has one of the more amazing life stories of all of them. Great writing.

Hayo just finished reading Abundance by Ezra Klein

Bad book. Techno utopianism has been thoroughly discredited, especially the take more risks approach. Same argument over and over from every angle. This seems to be the way now to get a bestseller. Avoid.

One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson
