From 2016-22, I wrote & revised my 1st novel, THE ALGORITHM WILL SEE YOU NOW. What a fabulous review of The great Marc Evers! Read it in full here (or through the link in my bio):

Brief Review Death in Fine Condition, Andrew

I'm of mixed opinions. Not up to the standards of the 'Vinyl Detective' series (centred around an obsession with crime stories) but fun. However my conflict stems from the fact that although the chief baddy is a very nasty man, the anti-heroine did start things by stealing his precious collection of crime books! No synpathy from us.

In the upcoming months, this will be my look: focused on my screen, writing.
Im incredibly excited to be writing my book with uitgeverijtenhave !
What is the book about Imagination, the cosmos, place, and space.
For manyexcept for the handful of astronauts who have been to spacespace is an abstract concept. We do not know how it feels we do not know what it is like to be there. Yet, we are all connected to it, and it is a place full of meaning and history. Every discovery we make in the universe reflects back on ourselves. This makes it important not only to focus on the technical and scientific aspects of space research but also to pay attention to the stories that drive these discoveries.
In this collection, I describe my journeys to observatories and space research institutes, driven by a desire to learn more about the significance of looking outward from each specific place. I see these expeditions not just as scientific adventures but also as opportunities to place space research and its history in a broader perspective.
Each location tells stories that go beyond the technical marvels of space exploration they offer a window into the human experience, our dreams, and the lessons we have learned. What does space say about our place in the universe And what can these discoveries teach us about the essence of our existence How do stories about the cosmos shape the way we explore the future
This writing highlights the beauty of gazing at the stars while we remain, inevitably and essentially, inhabitants of Earth. It invites reflection on our responsibilities as both earthly and cosmic citizens. By sharing these stories, I hope to create a space for contemplation and dialogue, where science and philosophy meet and enrich each other.
My gratitude goes to Rick and Uitgeverij Ten Have for their trust.

A magic mirror makes you invisible but, if you stay in for too long, you meet your reflection - the yin to your yang - and they usually force you to stay and THEY come out when someone clicks off the mirrors light.
Unlike Say Cheese and Die, I could totally see 12-year-old me clicking to go invisible. I could even see me having competitions with my friends to see who could stay invisible the longest. This is the most realistic kid behavior so far.
But the end is caused when the protagonists brother comes into the room, sees the protagonists reflection in the mirror, and throws a ball at it saying catch!
The mirror breaks, the evil reflections are sucked in, and bing bang boom, the storys over.
Except it turns out the little brother who threw the ball was a reflection as well!
So the logical questions here are:
Why did he throw the ball when he knew it was a mirror
Why didnt he get sucked up like the other reflections in the room
And, going back to the ball throwing, if he knew he was a reflection (which they all did), why would he risk breaking the mirror
The only possible answer for all of these is that he knew he was throwing at a mirror and that, somehow, the mirror validated the worth of people vs reflections and found the little brother worthy of staying in the real world.
Which means only one thing: the real little brother who started life OUTSIDE the mirror was an evil little bastard because the mirror brother was no peach.

New at my Patreon... On my latest visit to Sydney, I was keen to visit a famous bookshop which had undergone a transformation into something shiny and new (with a cafe!):

**Mapped Out**

I know it seems like Im being really hard on a childrens book series meant to be an exciting time and not much else.
And I am definitely overthinking these silly quasi-joke books.
But 1) thats just me - I overthink, and 2) theres usually a much more interesting story in there. Maybe not an age-appropriate one, but its in there.
Actually, maybe the younger the better for this one.
Lets talk about curses. In this book, generation after generation of protectors, have been making sure a priestess chamber was never found or disturbed and, when it was, they were killed.
By mummification!
But going back to the people doing the killing, the last in the line says that they dont WANT to kill (per se), but have to because they have to make sure the priestess curse continues.
This is fascinating to me. When I think mummys curse, I think supernatural stuff. At the very least, I think stuff that can handle the implementation of its own curse.
I do NOT think about people who are basically brainwashed into continuing some bullshit murder validation. At what point would they be okay with her chamber being found At what point would the priestess have been okay Maybe she was just looking for one generation. I really cant see her being okay with doing this for roughly 4,600 years.
And why were the protectors so okay with this for so long
It made me think of the folks who lean on their religions to be shitty to people and how, really, this needs to stop.
Not that Im against religion or anything, but its supposed to bring you peace and make you feel connected to whatever divine entity you choose. Its not there to give (or even charge you with) carte blanche to be cruel to others and at some point a mature individual would realize the supposed curse is self-imposed and they're just being a prick.
