The rocky road of designing a logo

The symbol for Powerhouse, one of the teen superheroes from Unsecret Identity took a while to get settled. Initially, her emblems design was based on how easily itd be to recreate/redraw. Over time, it become more dynamic to fit her personality. The path to her super mark was frustrating at times, but I love the result.

The Cathedral and the Bazaar: A Pillar of Open Source Philosophy

The Cathedral and the Bazaar, written by Eric S. Raymond in 1999, remains a cornerstone of the open-source movement. Despite its age, the book's principles continue to resonate in an era increasingly reliant on collaborative software development.

Pensiero disperato,
amore vivo
che sento placido nel rivo abbandonato.
Sei tu che torni sempre quando sono stralciato,
credevo fossi come l'acqua
che non scorre mai dove il fiume gi passato,
il tuo abbraccio invece albero e sentiero
che riporta sempre a casa
nel mio angolo sincero.

"Henrietta" (2008)
Charlotte Lennox, Ruth Perry, and Susan Carlile

Just finished reading this. Its okay, just felt like I was reading a YA version of The Last Kingdom.

4. Tech innovation seems to always increase inequality. My guess is because innovation is costly (in societal terms), and it needs advocacy. But advocacy usually comes from privileged classes, which naturally focus on their own wants and needs.

5. Good points on the intransitivity nature of intelligence: being good at one thing doesn't necessarily mean being good at the others. Ergo there's no such thing as "superinteliigence". (6/6)

2. Good point on humans are now tweaking their own coupling mechanism, e.g., social media. We're taking evolution into our own hands now, people (not that it hasn't already begun). (4/6)

3. Important distinction between intelligence as an entity vs a property: agreed w/ author that people tend to conceptualize intelligence as entities, probably because "intention" is thought to be a key ingredient of intelligence (my guess). But intelligence can exist without its own intention. It can be bestowed, given, evolved, or designed. (5/6)

Before firing up my 180bpm playlist and channeling my inner Kipchoge for the last 5 miles, I listened to Neil Lawrence new "Atomic Human", which aims at finding the "core" of humanity in the age of . A few notes so far: (2/6)

1. Loose coupling of human vs. machines: author posits huge portion of human intelligence is devoted to communication because of the very limited bandwidth. But what if the low comm bandwidth is a feature Loose coupling allows for individualism, competition and collaboration, diversity, and a host of complex behaviors, which might be favored by evolution (3/6)

Organization, Community, Continuity

False modesty has prevented us from seeing how effective we've been, ego has prevented us from seeing how systematically we fumble revolutionary situations. It's time to get real:In the last 20 years, anarchists have played vital support roles or even created the force necessary to push anger or resistance past a tipping point and into uncontrollable rebellion time and again, in Egypt, Hong Kong, Catalunya, Greece, France, Sweden, the US, Mexico, Chile, Brazil...Time and again, we have also gotten left behind, failed to prepare for a predictable danger, or not known how to take the next steps. Our successes show there is clearly something valid about our methods and critiques. Many of our failures come down to questions of Organization, Continuity, Community..

Yellow Blue Tibia by Adam Roberts

"Russia, 1946, the Nazis recently defeated. Stalin gathers half a dozen of the top Soviet science fiction authors in a dacha in the countryside somewhere. Convinced that the defeat of America is only a few years away, and equally convinced that the Soviet Union needs a massive external threat to hold it together, to give it purpose and direction, he tells the writers: I want you to concoct a story about aliens poised to invade earth "

Translated to Spanish, but unfortunately not English. Maybe this is the time

I just finished reading The Glassmaker by Tracy Chevalier. I like when you can learn from a book -- between the lines is a history of Murano glassmaking, especially lampwork beads

I really enjoyed looking up the types of beads the main character encounters and creates, from rosetta to ulivetta to cornaline d'aleppo.

It makes me want to do a little more reading about their history and learn about the legacy of Murano glass and the artisans working in the tradition today.
