The world has been squandering its capital. The lives and the labor of men everywhere have been lost. The actual wealth of nature has been misapplied to purposes of pure destruction, and none of this lost wealth can ever be regained.

this looks like another interesting SLOW PRODUCTIVITY: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout by Cal Newport
* FROM THE BOOK JACKET *
Our current definition of "productivity" is broken. It pushes us to treat busyness as a proxy for useful effort, leading to impossibly lengthy task lists and ceaseless meetings. We're overwhelmed by all we have to do and on the edge of burnout, left to decide between giving into soul-sapping hustle culture or rejecting ambition altogether. But are these really our only choices
Long before the arrival of pinging inboxes and clogged schedules, history's most creative and impactful philosophers, scientists, artists, and writers mastered the art of producing valuable work with staying power. In this timely and provocative book, Cal Newport harnesses the wisdom of these traditional knowledge workers to radically transform our modern jobs. Drawing from deep research on the habits and mindsets of a varied cast of storied thinkers--from Galileo and Isaac Newton, to Jane Austen and Georgia O'Keefe-- Newport lays out the key principles of "slow productivity," a more sustainable alternative to the aimless overwhelm that defines our current moment. Combining cultural criticism with systematic pragmatism, Newport deconstructs the absurdities inherent in standard notions of productivity, and then provides step-by-step advice for cultivating a slower, more humane alternative.
Interesting to see how the Mill transformed this old grist mill into a .
Controversial take: Whilst The Lord of the Rings is undeniably more epic, I think The Hobbit might be the better story. The book is detailed, but it flies.

12 - 13 years ago we were in Savannah, GA for a few days. We kept hearing about this and I was going to read it 'one day'. Last month it was in our and I finally read it. I always assumed it was a very dark book but on the contrary, it was a joyful read (other than the fact that someone was killed obviously). Loved all the characters in the book.

FASCINATING. It's a high level look at everything involved in Apollo, from how the Saturn V engines worked through to life on board to the challenges of figuring out which way is 'up' in space (importantly, needed for the navigation systems).

In the 1940s, a third of Baghdads population was Jewish. Within a decade nearly all of Iraqs 150,000 Jews had fled. 'The Wolf of Baghdad' is a graphic memoir of a lost homeland and a wordless narrative for a home never visited.
'The Wolf of Baghdad' is a unique audio-visual journey through a Jewish familys memories of their lost Iraqi homeland and speaks to audiences about the little-known story of Iraqi Jews.
