On the surface, the words anarchist and design dont belong together in a sentence. Most woodworkers think of design as a way to organize the visual elements of a piece of furniture and anarchism as something akin to chaos.
Once you understand a bit about the American brand of anarchism a non-violent and anti-consumerist approach to living I think these terms are allied.
Contemporary North American anarchism (which I wrote about in The Anarchists Tool Chest) is a tendency among individuals to eschew large organizations, corporations, governments and religions. It is a preference for individual action as opposed to mandates, mass-manufacturing and canonical law

Religion and the American Presidency (The Evolving American Presidency), by Mark J. Rozell (Editor), My rating:4 out of 5 stars, Read from: 01/25/2024 - 01/27/2024.

Book description: This volume opens a new avenue toward understanding the politics and policies of many US presidents. For years, leading scholars have largely ignored the religious factor in their studies of presidents. Yet, as the essays in this book reveal, religion has had an enormous impact on many critical presidencies in US history. Contrary to the conventional wisdom, these essays reveal the deeply religious side to such presidents as Truman, Eisenhower, and Reagan, among others.

Its interesting that is taking a page out of the , and show The Time Travelers Wife. Its actually making it work too.

I Twins for the Wild Orc by Michele Mills (Sweet Monster Treats). If Mills wrote it, I'm probably going to it, & I did (even orcs). Besides the title trope of unplanned babies, the is a reunion meant for at Halloween. Short & charming.

Visited the locally owned book store today to pick up a book I needed for a book club. They had a table set up with blind dates with a book bundles. $10 for a mystery book and a packet of tea. I love this idea so much and was happy to risk $10 on a mystery book.

The Quran is not an evil book

An eye-opening political diary. The detail gives a lot of insight into the way British politics work, in Parliament and in the Labour Party with a glimpse into relationships with the labour unions and other political organisations.

It covers the Thatcher years, including the Falklands war and her brutal suppression of the miners and other unions.

Tony Benn was on the left of the Labour Party and before the period covered by this volume of his diaries, was a Cabinet Minister in a Labour government. During these diaries, he maintained his position on the edge of being in the Shadow Cabinet because of the amount of support the left still enjoyed within the party, counterbalanced by the growing power of the party leadership and the slow movement of the party leadership towards the right-wing of the party in the hopes of regaining power, which eventually led to Tony Blair becoming Prime Minister.

It provides a lot of data for social systems thinking. The fact that this same process happened within Canadas NDP, a rough equivalent to Britains Labour Party adds support to the ways in which the Parliamentary system with First Past the Post voting, gave the party leaders such enormous powers, especially when leading a party in office. That power grew over the second half of the twentieth century. He gives many examples of the way the leader was able to impose their policies on the parliamentary party, even policies diametrically opposed to those adopted by conventions of the whole party, because of their power of patronage.

recreation of the cover art of Gate of Ivrel, by C. J. Cherryh, (one of my favorite ) originally painted by Micheal Whelan. Ive added some out of my WIP folder.

I find it ironic how little the seemingly warm, desert like environment of the painting corresponds with the cold, wintry setting of the but at the same time I think it does capture something about the characters and the story
