Understanding the Differences between Screenplays and Books

QSFer Erik Schubach has a new FF urban fantasy out: Coven Tales.

Detective Enid Vosh, a Malefica, or Witch, and recent graduate of the NYPD Academy, finds herself embroiled in a homicide case which points to a serial killer in the city. The victims all wind up being Elves who are hiding in the city as Sapiens, from the International Aelftus Assembly...

Today's review! Rembrandt's Station by Christie Meierz:

"I loved the characters, especially Bertie and the Monral. I enjoyed immensely the scope of the book. A tightly plotted, well-written sci-fi tale with an extremely satisfying slow-burn MM romance at its core. Well worth the read."

I wrote a wee review of a banging - very much in a mode making the case for as a artform that's worth taking seriously. Or at least not criminalising every young black man doing it.

Looking forward to reading more from Adle Oliver because this slapped.

Nothing beats a mystery around Christmas time. Maybe you're a fan of Gladys Mitchell's 'Mrs. Bradley', the Detective Murdoch mysteries or even Miss Scarlett and the Duke

But for now, let's join Agatha Christie, whose archaeological travels to the Middle East inspired her to write 'Murder in Mesopotamia' and 'They Came to Baghdad'.

People think that stories are shaped by people. In fact, it's the other way around.

Travel journalist Andrew Eames was in the ancient Syrian city of Aleppo when he met an elderly lady who had known Agatha Christie.

Fascinated by the exotic history of this quintessentially English crime writer, he decided to retrace the trip from London to Baghdad which she made in 1928 - a journey which was to change Agatha Christie completely and led to her other life as the wife of an archaeologist in the deserts of Syria and Iraq.

I Brekars Christmas by Clarissa Lane and Christine Myers ( 2 A Cyborg For Christmas) from the Cyborg Awakening series. First Ive read of these authors or this world. This charming post-apocalyptic North American has the MMC walking from Chicago to West Virginia to find his mate & re-establish Christmas. Didnt need any of the to understand this but it might have helped.

A SURREAL POST-APOCALYPTIC SETTING lends power to this dreamlike retelling of Macbeth. Hallucinatory, atmospheric prose captures the point of view of a man pushed to his limits with no options but to fight. B PLUS

Woo hoo! I just finished my review work on narrator Tyra Kennedy's reading of 2 in my Oxendine series. Tyra did an amazing job! I'm just so happy with her reading. I'm grateful that Tyra was patient with me. It took me a while to finish.

The Body in the Web by Katherine Hall Page

So boring gave up.

Takes place from before lockdown to a year or 2 later, in an insular, privileged village. Took 140 pages to get to The Body.

Gave up bc there was a page about cream cheese, and now there's a "nuptual intervention." (Pg 174/251)

Just couldn't take it anymore. It took me a week to get to this point, when I could read a 300pg in an afternoon easily, if it were good.

7 years, 10 minutes, 3 panels.

Personal projects take many forms and the biggest hurdle many face is the ability to truly focus on them I admire anyone that takes on, and completes, a personal project...

I already have trouble keeping track of names. Here, everyone has multiple names and bodies are shared by multiple people. Add to this salad a few dozen other Proper Nouns, several vaguely defined disputes between various factions, and a main character who has very little agency throughout most of the story. Protagonist as MacGuffin.

I did like getting some answers about the back story of the world.

Otherwise, this is not for me.
