The Lepidoptera of Ceylon by Moore, Frederic, 1830-1907

As a boy in the 80 I was very much influenced learning about Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela and Steven Biko. I've always be fascinated by their lives and the heroic struggles that they had. Growing up in a neighbourhood with alot of Surinaamse immigrants their words had a lot more meaning, as I saw the inequality outside

This looks like a very interesting book

He transformed his mind: how did Malcolm Little become Malcolm X

I have a question for the community:

I read this book, listened to the audio, and started looking its way again this morning. Its really got me hooked on coups, foreign policy gaffs, dark characters in government history like the Dulles Brothers, I cant recommend it enough. But, what it does better than anything else is provide story and context so the events make sense. Favorite at the moment. Have to share . Thanks! All the Shahs Men by Stephen Kinzer opened a door for me. Hope the same for you!

Old yet new, "IQ", an invented pseudoscientific method and term for stupid people to maintain their "rank" in the hierarchy of a predefined circus of folly by brushing with a layer of confusing ornament. It is a revised edition (1996)old book by Stephen Jay Gould, but this is how science works and earning its reputation, it rebuts scientifically and beyond the time, nothing becomes new if it is false, and nothing turns old if it was true.

pour servir by Cuvier, Georges, baron, 1769-1832 Audouin, Jean Victor, 1797-1841-

Its been a very long time since I got a book as a ., never knowing whats under the wrapping. Thought Id try this, something for myself under the tree this year. I really had no idea what this would be until I paid for it and the title was on the receipt.
Despite that, never heard of the book, dont know anything about it. Not even going to look it up.
Anyone want to guess what the title is based on those hints, go ahead. Ill let you know if its right. Just dont let me know anything else about it. Im gonna wait till Christmas.

IN A BLEAK AND BEAUTIFUL URUGUAYAN novel, a woman lingers in a decaying city wracked by environmental disaster, caring for a child with rich absentee parents and profound medical needs. Stunning vision of life without hope. A MINUS

New Medieval Books: Introducing the Medieval Fox

I treated myself to another book advent calendar from the Book Grocer. I really enjoyed last year's selection and discovering new authors and genres. These are the first 7 for this year.

Talk to the boat next door.

Now it comes....

There will be sex scenes in the books and now I was just wondering how exactly I should describe them....
Hmh...

There should be a lot of passion, you should lose yourself in it when you read about it, but it shouldn't be raunchy either

So what do you think
Should I describe it in more detail but do the tightrope act of not making it too hot

Finished the book "A Forger's Tale" this week. Written by British art forger Shaun Greenhaugh it tells the story of his life and the events that led up to his arrest and subsequent criminal sentencing in 2007. Greenhaugh comes across as a down to earth Northerner who is obviously very talented and extremely knowledgeable about art history and art techniques. He can turn his hand to anything oils, watercolours, metalwork, woodwork, ceramics. You name it, he has done it. Whilst not particularly well written, the book has plenty that kept me interested. If you're looking for an all out art crime caper then this might not be for you as it sometimes delves deep into art history or detailed descriptions of production techniques.
Greenhaugh is a reformed character now and he wrestles with the morality of what he did throughout the book. His parents were involved in his crimes too so the family dynamics are described in passages of the book. Sometimes you feel he can't say what he really wants to say, or he'll leave things ambiguous, which can be a little frustrating. I felt that sometimes he was protesting that "other people made me do it" or he was playing a bit dumb (he is clearly not!) Anyway, I ended up quite liking him.
The book was read via the app.

I highly recommend For We Are Many by Dennis E. Taylor

Finished another An interesting collection of stories about the post death adventures of the bodies of the famous through history
